Lithuanian city hosts Persian poetry night

The Apeironas Theater in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda hosts Persian poetry night.

The Apeironas Theater in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda has hosted a Persian poetry night.

Held by the Lithuanian translator of Persian literature, Daina Buseckaite, on Tuesday, Persian poet Mohammad-Javad Aseman and a number of Lithuanian literati attended the night.

Buseckaite recited her translations of Aseman’s poems and the audience warmly received the poetry recitation that was merged with dramatic performances by Lithuanian actresses Egle Kazickaite and Greta Kazlauskaite.

Aseman also delivered speech about Iran, Persian literature and his poetry.

Explaining that there are many people in Lithuania who are studying the Persian language and Iranology, he said the absence of close diplomatic relations between Iran and Lithuania has not caused the Lithuanian people to show lack of interest in Iran and Persian literature.

Aseman called upon the audience to visit Iran, adding “Regrettably, the media present a bad image of Iran in the world, but to understand Iran, you don’t need these untrustworthy agents.”

Describing the Iranians’ poetry as one of the most significant arts in the country, he said Iranians are so interested in poetry that they know many works by Persian poets by heart.

The meeting came to an end with Aseman and Buseckaite answering questions from the audience.
